That was fun, so what’s next?

Dear Equity, Disproportionality & Design Community Members!

We are incredibly grateful for all of those who attended our first ever design thinking workshop at the San Diego County of Education office on Tuesday, October 22.

Like we mentioned in our gratitude circle at the end of the evening, we truly appreciate you taking the time to be present, optimistic, and energetic. We appreciate your willingness to brainstorm immediately and jumping into building. It’s clear that everyone brings expertise to this work and that we can design the best solutions together.

What does it mean to be part of our design team?

We want you to lead from where you are! If that means joining our in-person events or supporting different phases with what you can–we want you to be a part of this journey!

We need three kinds of participants: 

Design team members: These are our core designers. This is a chance to turn your passion for equity into services that influence outcomes for our students and a chance to get deep into design thinking. The design team members bring the community’s voices in and build our services. The estimated time commitment for design team members is 40 hours between now and June 30, 2020. This time will be spent in virtual and in-person work meetings.

Close collaborators: These are our on-call content experts. Core collaborators participate in design team meetings when they can. They also help design team members by providing input on decision decisions when we need more voices. The estimated time commitment for close collaborators is 4 hours between now and June 30, 2020. 

Mobilizers: These are our support members. Mobilizers participate in design team meetings when they can. They also help design team members by giving input on prototypes or sharing final products with the school community. The estimated time commitment for mobilizers is 1-2 hours between now and June 30, 2020. 

What’s next?

 Each team will be embarking on their individual design journey, beginning with empathy. Each team will be meeting to discuss how we will approach empathy and what we are hoping to learn from the empathy phase.

Each team will be re-grouping on the following dates!

AWARENESS DESIGN TEAM, Tuesday, November 5 at 4PM PST
ACTION DESIGN TEAM, Wednesday, November 6 at 4PM PST
SCALE DESIGN TEAM, Thursday, November 7 at 4PM PST
